The importance of a healthy digestive tract

Information excerpted from the books “The Way of Herbs” by Michael Tierra and “Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health” by Rosemary Gladstar.  These are only two of the many sources I’ve researched – as well as my own experience – to get you the most up-to-date and applicable information as possible.

Causes and contributing factors to an unhealthy digestive tract are many. The body will signal direct warnings of poor eating habits primarily through indigestion and flatulence.

Gladstar (2008) mentions in her book that poor digestion and pain and gas in the abdomen are usually a result of poor eating habits, poor-quality food, and stress. Therefore, indigestion responds well to lifestyle changes (p. 93).  I’ll take the time to analyze your current diet and eating habits, and formulate a plan to get you on the right track to complete, healthy digestion and a better overall feeling of your own health.

One tip is that steaming or cooking food MAY destroy a small amount of vitamins, but cooking enhances our bodies’ ability to assimilate what is there (Tierra, 1998, p. 61). Just make sure you don’t over-cook or steam!

Additionally, …“While high-quality therapeutic supplements are fine for remedying problems, they do not provide the whole spectrum of nutrients, and they certainly don’t provide them in a manner that our bodies have been evolving with for many centuries” (Gladstar, 2008, p. 15-16).  Want to find out what’s best for you?
